Africa’s Promise Village
WHERE WATER & EDUCATION BRING NEW LIFE
Beginning in 2010, Africa's Promise Village has been delivering medicine, food and educational supplies to Tanzania. This group., with a core of 10-20 Austinites,is now focusing on one area, a Maasai village of 3,500 people. In 2015, Africa's Promise Village partnered with Rotary Intl. to drill a deep well for this village. The non-profit group, Common Threadz, is building a school, which will be dedicated in July 2018. At capacity, it will hold 1000 students who will come from the 23 Maasai villages in the Siminjaro Plains. This will be the only English speaking primary school within the 23 villages.
In addition, Africa's Promise Village has obtained a grant to develop a garden, green house & chicken yard as a means to improve nutrition for the children. We will also purchase a water storage tank to collect rain water off the roofs of the school building.
The Bunkhouse Gallery has chosen Africa's Promise Village as our 2018 charity.
Bunkhouse member, Linda Wells has been working with Africa's Promise Village since 2017. Linda will be hosting an art camp 200 Maasai children in the village of Lenjani, Tanzania, a remote Maasai area in East Africa. Many of the children have never seen a drawing or painting. Linda, with help from some other members and artist friends will engage the children in art activities to decorate the rooms and the hall of the new school. She has been working for the last year to design and paint 5 large murals, which will be hang from the walls of the classrooms.
We are extremely proud of Linda's work and we are supporting her and Africa's Promise Village. We will be raffling four paintings that are created by the entire Bunkhouse gang over the two weekends of the show. In addition, many artists are donating artwork. All proceeds from the sales of this art goes to Africa's Promise Village. If you would like to make a donation to Africa's Promise Village.
